Benfotiamine (S-benzoylthiamine-O-monophosphate) is a derivative of thiamin, belonging to the family of compounds known as "allithiamines." Benfotiamine is fat-soluble and more bioavailable and physiologically active than thiamin. Benfotiamine raises the blood level of thiamin pyrophosphate (TPP), the biologically active co-enzyme of thiamin, and stimulates transketolase, a cellular enzyme essential for maintenance of normal glucose metabolic pathways.

•    Helps maintain healthy cells in the presence of blood glucose.

•    Helps control formation of Advanced Glycation End products (AGEs).

•    Helps normalize cellular processes fueled by glycose metabolites.

Q. What are the benefits of Benfotiamine?
A. • Currently, there is no drug available to diminish the toxic effects of the breakdown products of excess glucose.
• Benfotiamine is now readily available as a dietary supplement. A fat-soluble derivative of vitamin B1, benfotiamine works by a novel mechanism to prevent the development and progression of diabetic complications.
• Benfotiamine helps relieve polyneuropathy, pain, and dysfunction affecting multiple nerves in the extremities, while also protecting against tissue-damaging oxidative stress in the brain.
• Benfotiamine preserves healthy endothelial function, which is associated with optimal cardiovascular health and protection against diabetic peripheral vascular disease. Benfotiamine also supports the function of muscle cells in the heart.
• Benfotiamine protects the kidneys against oxidative stress and loss of filtering capability, thus helping to prevent diabetic kidney disease.
• Benfotiamine helps prevent or delay the development of diabetic retinopathy, a cause of vision loss.

Q.What does Benfotiamine do?
A.• Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) are produced in most tissues exposed to elevated blood sugar levels, and even in tissues exposed to normal blood sugar for a long enough time.
• Advanced glycation end products induce oxidative stress and inflammation, and are responsible for a large amount of tissue damage and dysfunction in diabetic patients. They are increasingly being recognized as harmful in non-diabetic people as well.
• The fat-soluble thiamine-derived nutrient benfotiamine blocks three of the major biochemical pathways through which high blood sugar promotes tissues damage—without known side effects. Benfotiamine can reach tissues more than five times more readily than thiamine (vitamin B1) itself, and has been widely used in Europe for decades.
• An explosion of laboratory and human data now demonstrate that benfotiamine can block the actual tissue-level effects of AGEs and prevent their potentially deadly consequences in both diabetic and non-diabetic people.

Q.What are the dosage for Benfotiamine?
A.Benfotiamine is commonly taken at the oral dose of 300-600 mg over the course of the day, usually in two divided doses with meals (150mg or 300mg twice daily).
